Federal high court remands GEJ's cousin Azibaola in prison custody for alleged $40m fraud

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today ordered the cousin of former President Jonathan, Azibaola Roberts, to be remanded in Kuje prison, till tomorrow June 8th when his bail application will be heard. Azibaola has been in EFCC custody since March when he was invited for questioning over a $40m contract which he allegedly received from the office of embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

EFCC, in a seven-count charge filed before the court, is alleging that Azibaola and his wife, Stella, used their company, Oneplus Holding Limited, to collect contracts from NSA's office. The charges include money laundering and fraud.

Azibaola arrived the court in company of his wife who was taken into custody yesterday June 6th. As they arrived the court premises, the couple began singing Christian hymns and praying.

They pleaded not guilty to corruption and money laundering charges read to them. Stella was given administrative bail while Azibaola's bail application will come up tomorrow.
