According to reports, the players were handed just 20, 000 each before they dispersed in Abuja last Thursday
Players from the victorious Golden Eaglets from the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup have expressed their disappointment over the N20, 000 bonus handed to them by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Eaglets last week arrived Nigeria after winning the U-17 World Cup in Chile and hosted to a dinner by the new Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalong at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
According to reports, the players were handed just 20, 000 each before they left Abuja last Thursday.
Nigerian Pilot however reports that some players have revealed their sadness over the unappreciative act by the NFF.
“It’s
surely not the best way to treat heroes. The money they gave us could
not even fetch us flight tickets to take us home to see our loved ones,’’ one of the players anonymously told the newspaper.
“I’ve heard about how badly players have been treated in the past. I didn’t think ours would come so soon,” another player reportedly told the newspaper.
“I am still,
however, grateful to God we came home with the trophy. The victory has
opened new doors of opportunity which we are already exploring,’’ the player who the report say is on the verge joining an English Premier League side said.
The player would hope for better payday when they reconvene on Saturday, November 28 for presidential reception.
