The former premier league keeper Marton Fulop has died at age 32 after a two and a half year battle with cancer.
The Hungarian who had a long stint in England played for top flight teams like Tottenham, Sunderland and Manchester City.
He also had spells with Stoke, Coventry, Leicester, Ipswich and West Brom during his time in England.
In February 2013, Fulop had a tumor removed from his arm, but vowed to return to football within months.
“I am sure that after a few months I will be ready both physically and mentally to continue playing football,” he said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
However, two years after, the Hungarian football federation posted a
message on its official website on Thursday, November 12, confirming
Fulop’s death and “expressing its deep sympathy on behalf of the Hungarian football family.”
Following the confirmation of his (Fulop) death, tributes have continued to trickle in from clubs and former teammates of the Hungarian.
Fulop arrived in England with Spurs in 2004 and went on to play for Chesterfield, Coventry City and Sunderland on loan before joining the Black Cats on a permanent basis in 2007.
He was also loaned to Leicester, Stoke and Manchester City throughout the next three seasons before moving to Ipswich Town and then West Bromwich Albion on full-time deals, at the start of the decade.
He made a total of 24 appearances for Hungary.
