New Trend: Celebrities Fake Assets On Social Media

Some Nigerian Celebrities Pass off Leased Luxury Cars as their own.
A new trend has been uncovered recently by fans of celebrities on social media. Celebrities both male and female now show off fake assets as their own. Naijaloaded in 2014 published an article called the “More you look, the more you see” exposing an actress who was on the same flight as Eniola Badmus. The actress sitting in the economy class of the plane requested she be allowed to sit in business class and take pictures. The pictures ended up on Instagram with the #Firstclassthings.
This has become a trend for some Nigerian celebrities, the latest been the habit of lying about their supposed personally purchased fleet of luxury cars. A good example is an artist “Iyanya” who recently had an album launch in Abuja. According to sources he charged N400,000 (Four hundred thousand naira) for a table and served Hennessy and groundnut which did not go down well with his guests.
To make matters interesting he then announced after a few days that he had added a Bentley Continental GT which costs about 19 million Naira on the Carmudi Nigeria Website and about 23 million Naira at Colly Autos Ikeja to his fleet of luxury cars.
An inside source when asked to confirm the purchase stated that the car was leased by this celebrity and not bought as claimed. The source went further commenting that most celebrities lease or borrow luxury cars from dealers to show off on social media. He said that’s why it’s rare for us to see those cars on the road. Damage or theft of the car could bring the truth to the surface.
