COAS Organases Sallah Party For Wounded Soldiers In Yola

In a bid to give wounded soldiers in Yola a sense of belonging, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, has organised a Sallah “get-together” for them.

The Punch reports that Buratai was represented at the ceremony by Colonel Aba Popoola, the commander of 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola.

According to the army chief, his aim was to motivate the gallant soldiers who were fighting insurgency. He noted that his gesture was also an expression of love to the wounded soldiers and their families, especially during this festive period.

“This is not the first of its kind; if you can recall, the chief of army staff had organised a similar event in Damaturu for the gallant soldiers,” Colonel Popoola added.

He expressed satisfaction that the wounded soldiers were responding positively to treatment. The soldiers are said to be from the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, 28 Task Force Brigade in Mubi and some from Gwoza in Borno state.

Speaking on behalf of soldiers, Corporal Jonathan Okiki thanked the chief of army staff for identifying with them and their families.
“We assure you sir, that as soon as we leave the hospital, we will be eager to go back to the battle field to fight Boko Haram,” he said.

Eralier this month, the chief of army staff noted that the Boko Haram insurgency had uncovered essential flaws existing in the Nigeria Army.

Therefore, he stressed that the army was committed to achieving the renewal of the principal values of soldiering which are discipline, regimentation and  ‎professionalism.
