Thierry Henry Names His Best Ever English Midfielder

 Thierry Henry has named Steven Gerrad and Paul Scholes, formerly of Liverpool and Manchester United respectively as two of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

The Frenchman however says Scholes just pips Gerrard as the midfielder he wished he played professional football with.
Asked on Monday Night Football (MNL) to name which player, past or present, he would most have liked to line up next to, Henry plainly said “Paul Scholes” but adds that Gerrard will just come after the former Manchester United midfielder.

Scholes and Gerrard were part of a golden generation of English players that included John Terry, Micheal Owen, Owen Hargreaves, Joe Cole, Ashely Cole, David Beckham, Gary and Phil Neville, Wayne Bridge, Emile Heskey, Alan Smith, Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King among others.

Henry said of the midfielder he wished he played football with: “Paul Scholes.”

He continued: “The next one would have been, right behind, very close, Stevie G. But I have to go with Paul Scholes. He was just ahead in his head. He made Manchester United tick. Every time we were playing them we needed to find a way to stop him.”
“I think Stevie G comes really close to him. But Paul Scholes would have to win.”
He said of the English generation: “You guys in England had, on paper, the best midfield in the world.”

Scholes inspired Manchester United to 11 Premier League titles while former England captain Gerrard who is now in Los Angeles led Liverpool to a cup treble in 2001 and the 2005 UEFA Champions league.
