Raffi Freedman-Gurspan was an adviser for the National Center for Transgender Equality
She was a former policy adviser at the National Centre for Transgender Equality before her appointment.

In confirming the appointment, a senior adviser to Obama, Valerie Jarrett, said:“Raffi Freedman-Gurspan demonstrates the kind of leadership this administration champions. Her commitment to bettering the lives of transgender Americans, particularly transgender people of color and those in poverty, reflects the values of this administration.”

Her appointment is Obama's latest move in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights and has been praised by members of the LGBT community.
