Nigeria Decided: INEC Announces Official Results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held two press conferences in Abuja on March 30, 2015, Monday, and starts the third session of announcement on Tuesday.
Nigeria now knows the results for 18 states and FCT Abuja.
12:56 The professor is not comfortable with lights and with reading from printed material, prefers hand-written. However, Jega insists on using the originals only, invites an INEC official to assist.
Nigeria Decided: INEC Announces Official Results
Prof John reads results
12:47 JEGA: “The decision is that we are taking the results from Rivers state. We are taking the results from Rivers now.”
Rivers RO asks for lights. Jega orders to bring in the lights, then decides that the podium should be mover to a better-lighted area. The solution has been found: just move the curtain!
Prof John prefers a reversed order, reads the numbers in free style, which is actually not acceptable and causes laughs in the audience.

12:38 Prof John of Rivers (VC, Federeal University of Petroleum Resources) is to speak next. There’s an issue with a microphone for him.
Meanwhile, Jega takes time to explain the situation around the petition urging cancellation and rescheduling of the elections in the state.
“I received a petition from APC demanding for the cancellation & rescheduling of elections.
“I circulated this memo to the commission. We reviewed it and set up a 3-man committee to Rivers. They returned this morning with their observations.
“There were a number of points as to why the commission should cancel/reschedule elections:
1) no elections;
2) no result sheets;
3) substitution of officials.
“We cannot establish any cancellation or substitution of results and we sent a list of collation officers to the state.
“Officials fail to show up to work for several reasons and it is up to the REC to substitute from the pool of officials they have.
“We do not believe the allegations are substantial enough to require the cancellation/rescheduling of the elections in Rivers.
“We have taken measures to make sure that reoccurrences do not occur in the future.”

Jega finally warns against escalating the issue, he then tells the protestor that an elder statesman needs to remain respectful.

11:38 Jega finally gets to talk and reply the accusations by the protestor. He says that his PA had come to him and said that the PDP through Dr Bello Fadili had been trying to give him some papers and petitions since yesterday afternoon. But such petitions cannot be collected at the base, where voting collation and announcement takes place.

11:35 The protestor accompanied with three men proceed to stage a sit in protest, Jega not allowed to reply to the allegation of being tribalistic.
The INEC boss was listening, then suggested that all is ready to continue. However, the noisy speaker does not think so.

11:30 “We have lost confidence in what you are doing Jega, we don’t believe in you anymore. Jega, we will not take it from you. You are tribalistic! You are partial!” Elder Godsday Orubebe.

11:26 The start is disrupted.
