Late Cameroon international Patrick Ekeng was honoured at Romanian Cup final between his club Dinamo Bucharest and CFR Cluj.
Ekeng died on Friday, May 6 after collapsing on the pitch during a league game between Dinamo Bucharest and Viitorul.Tributes were paid to the late 26-year-old at the Romanian final on Tuesday, May 17 where his Dinamo Bucharest side lost to CFR Cluj.
There was a minute's silence before kick-off and the game was halted in the 14th minute in memory of Ekeng, who wore the number 14 shirt at the club.
Dinamo Bucharest had planned sending the FA Cup trophy to Ekeng’s parents in Cameroon if they won but Cluj won 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 following extra time.
His former teammates, striker Harlem Gnohere and Eric Bicfalvi ran to the touchline and lifted a shirt with Ekeng's name and number on it when they scored Dinamo Bucharest’s goals on the night.
The late Cameroon international has been laid to rest in his home town of Yaounde.
After a funeral service in Romania, his body was flown to Yaounde where he was laid to rest on Sunday, May 15 at a final funeral service in Cameroon with several hundreds of people in attendance.
Cameroon's Sports Minister Pierre Ismael Bidoung Mpatt was also in attendance at the service which held at the family’s family home in Yaounde.
Ekeng's body arrived in Yaounde on Saturday evening and several hundred people attended a wake for the player overnight
