D’banj, while speaking to journalists at MTV Base media hangout, mentioned that new record labels lacked the standard organisational set-up.
Popular Afropop singer, D’banj, has shared his perspective concerning the state of music in Nigeria through claims that music labels in the country have not been able to surpass the Mo’hits era.
D’banj, while speaking to journalists at MTV Base media hangout, mentioned that new record labels lacked the standard organisational set-up.
He said, “There is no need in deceiving ourselves. Record labels in Nigeria died after Mo’hits and that’s the truth. There are no record labels anymore.”
“Any artiste that can buy a laptop, produce a song with it, get his uncle to pay for video would say he has a record label. That is not a record label.”
Now the owner of a record label named DB Records, D’banj lamented that many existing record labels cannot match the performance of Mo’hits during their days.
The singer left Mo’hits some years back after an alleged misunderstanding between him and music producer, Don Jazzy.
This however did not have any dwindling effect on his career. Rather, it opened him to more recognition outside the shores of Africa.
