status
Going through a divorce is never an easy thing to do, ask TV host, Aisha Tyler!
The Talk co-host was left in tears for the first time about her divorce from Jeff Tietjensen on Monday's show while discussing her new single status with the audience and her co-hosts on TV.
As we previously reported, Tietjensen filed for divorce from Tyler
in April citing irreconcilable differences. But TMZ reported the couple
had been separated since January 2015. They were married for 10 years.
"It’s a really painful thing to go through in public,” Tyler said about her breakup on the talk show. "I
really wanted to do it privately, and then make a statement here on the
show, but unfortunately the tabloids have these people that perch down
at the courthouse… and they got a hold of our divorce filing last week."
Tyler went on to set
the record straight about the details of her divorce, expressing her
frustration over "people talking about your private life who don’t know
anything about it.” She noted, "My husband and I met when I was a
teenager and I’ve been with him for more than half of my adult life…
Other than my parents, he’s the person who has influenced me and cared
for me the most.”
"It’s very hard when you love someone very much to also start to realize that maybe you want different things for your lives,” Tyler continued. As for why she never spoke about her separation, she explained, "We
were really fighting to try and stay together… There was no reason to
talk about it until we figured out what we were doing.”
The talk show host
went on to insist she still loves her ex-husband very much, and wants to
protect him from the media scrutiny that comes with a celebrity split. "Even though we decided we have to part ways, [the love] doesn’t go away,” asserted Tyler. She added, "I
don’t, not in any way, see this relationship as a failure… We loved
each other passionately, and we lived life fully, and we’re trying to
let each other go in the kindest way we possibly can."
