Maccabi Tel Aviv U19 0-4 Chelsea U19: Tammy Abraham strikes twice as young Blues win in UEFA Youth League

Tammy Abraham, Charlie Wakefield and Kyle Scott were all on target as Chelsea thrashed Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel to move to the brink of the UEFA Youth League knockout stage.

In a commanding display at the Netanya Stadium, the defending Youth League champions demonstrated exactly why they are among the favourites to win the title again.

If Porto fail to win in the day's other Group G fixture, Adi Viveash's team will be assured of top spot and continued involvement in the continental competition after Christmas.

The Blues had taken six points from six against Dinamo Kiev following a 3-0 win over Maccabi on the opening matchday and a 3-3 draw in Port to top the group.

The group winners progress to the last 16 automatically, while the runners-up enter a play-off round against those who have advanced through the 'Domestic Champions' route in the 64-team tournament.

Determined to take the easier option, Chelsea started brightly against a physical Maccabi outfit and duly took the lead on 16 minutes.

Wakefield delivered a low cross from the right which Miro Muheim reached before defender Galili Bar before going down under the impact. Abraham sent goalkeeper Ohayon Haviv the wrong way from 12 yards.

Chelsea's second goal arrived just three minutes later as Wakefield sprinted into space behind the Maccabi defence and fired a neat shot under Ohayon.

Abraham was denied his second by the goalkeeper's outstretched leg but Chelsea would have their third before half-time. Wakefield rolled the ball to Scott on the edge of the box and his effort found the net via a deflection.

The second-half continued in much the same fashion and Mukhtar Ali almost had a spectacular goal when his audacious lob from 35 yards out almost sailed over the retreating keeper before he reached out a glove to save.

There was time for a fourth late on when Kasey Palmer played Abraham one-on-one. He was never likely to miss, slotting home for his seventh of the tournament to cap an assured team performance
