Odegbami claimed that some people in the Glass house worked against him to ensure he did not get the mandate
Segun Odegbami claims some people in the NFF sabotage his bid for the FIFA presidency (Complete Sports)
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have denied the claims of ex Nigeria international Segun Odegbami of sabotaging his bid for the FIFA presidency.
The
Ex-Nigeria couldn't get the five required backing after the support
from the NFF came too late and therefore missed the Monday, October 26
deadline for the submission of a nomination form.
Odegbami
claimed that some people in the Glass house worked against him to
ensure he did not get the mandate to run for the FIFA presidential
elections.
The NFF have however
absolved any Nigerian of the blame of working against the nomination of
Odegbami and instead blamed the former international of starting the
process very late.
President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick revealed that the football body did everything they could to get the mandate for Odegbami.
Pinnick revealed that Odegbami only informed them of the need to secure endorsements for him just days to the deadline.
“I
took the form to Cairo and was going from table to table to get it
endorsed, but most of the countries were giving excuses that they have
committed themselves to other candidates,” Pinnick is quoted to say by the Nations Newspaper.
“If he had
started early enough, we would have gotten the endorsement before the
closing date. We learn daily, and would get it right next time.”
Former chairman of the NFF Technical Committee Christopher Green further explained that Odegbami did not start his process early enough.
Green also blamed the failure of Odegbami’s bid on the fact that Nigeria had two candidates and could not decide on one of them.
“Don’t
blame the federation because first and foremost we did not put our
house together in the sense that we had two candidates vying for the
same position,” Green said.
“But in other climes no country presented two candidates, only one.”
