Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo,
is on an assignment in Cote d’Ivoire where he is ably representing the
commander-in-chief of the federation at the investiture of the former
minister of agriculture Akinwunmi Adesina as the president of the
African Development Bank (AfDB).
The meeting was held to ascertain the welfare of Nigerians who are far away from home, as well as intimating them on progress back home. The vice president urged them to remain ever patriotic, representing and uphold the integrity of the land of their origin.
The vice president was not alone in meeting with the Nigerians in
Cote d’Ivoire. He was accompanied by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of
Kano state, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba state and a former
governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi.
It is recalled that the Nigerian vice president arrived in Abidjan on Monday, August 31, for the swearing-in of Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina – the first Nigerian to become the president of the AfDB.
According to President Muhammadu Buhari, the election of Adesina means so much to Nigeria and indeed to Africa at large.
Earlier this year Buhari solidly threw his weight behind Adesina, explaning that the ex-minister has a proven track record in a career that predates his position as Nigeria’s minister for agriculture and rural development. Therefore, he understands better the major problems which the AfDB is to properly focus upon.
