The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked
Nigerians to use the occasion of the holy festival of Eid El- Kabir to
pray for abiding peace and unity in the country.
The party also urged the citizens, irrespective of religious persuasions, to use the use the occasion to reflect on the virtue of faith, service and total submission to the will of the Almighty God, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.
The party, in a goodwill message signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the Eid El-Kabir, once again provides Nigerians a great opportunity to resubmit to God and commit the nation and its leaders in prayers.
“Indeed, the Eid El-Kabir, while teaching great lessons in faith in the Almighty God, also provides us the opportunity to humble ourselves as a people and seek God’s intervention for our dear country.
“We must therefore seize this divine doorway and collectively pray for our leaders to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to divide the nation, create tension and threaten our bond as one people under God, who, in His infinite wisdom destined Nigeria, a united and prosperous nation, where the welfare, freedom and happiness of all citizens are guaranteed”.
The party also urged the citizens to rededicate themselves to the values that unite, while resisting all vices that seek to weaken their bond of unity as a people.
The PDP also took a jibe at the ruling APC-led Federal Government. It asked the government to reciprocate by applying itself to purposefully, make haste to chart a course of governance in the economy and other sectors of the polity, and commence the implementation of its campaign promises to the people.
PDP further reassured that it would remain commitment to national interest by providing credible and issue-based opposition while constructively proffering alternatives to the programmes and policies of the APC-led Government, in a manner that would be of benefit to the Nigerian people.
On his part, President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed Nigerians in his first ever Eid-el-Kabir message to facilitate with Muslims celebrating the Sallah holidays. He reiterated his government’s commitment to eliminating Boko Haram insurgency and added that the sect’s days are numbered.
