The Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau state on Thursday arrested 11 suspected thugs in Bisichi community in Barkin Ladi local government area which has witnessed violent attacks in recent months.
Information Officer of the task force, Captain Ikedichi Iweha also said the passengers of two commuter buses waylaid on Wednesday at Laite and Kara villages in Jos South local government area of the State were safe and had been put into other vehicles and conveyed to their respective destinations.
Captain Iweha, told journalists that victims of the recent bus attacks on travellers around the newly constructed bypass that take passengers from Bukuru in Jos South through Du, Shen to Barkin Ladi and Mangu local councils were safe.
He confirmed that the two buses were burnt down by the attackers.
The by-pass was constructed by former Governor Jonah Jang and commercial vehicles coming from Abuja, Benue and neighbouring States often make use of the bypass to avoid traffic around Bukuru metropolises.
The STF spokesperson also said nine persons had been arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the frequent attacks on Bisichi while two other persons were arrested on Thursday.
He the youths kept firing gunshots even when the STF Commander and men of the task force were in the village of Bischi.
Iweha further explained that more checks points have been stationed on the road adding that "Berom youths are blocking the road and attacking people, and the Women are also making some noise but we advise them to stop or we will handle the situation."
Though he said calm had been restored to the area, he added that the STF Commander, Major-Genetal Tagbo Chukwusidi Ude had scheduled an face to faace meeting with the youths of the Berom and Fulani communities to find ways of resolving the situation.
