FIFA's Interim President Hayatou Undergoes Kidney Transplant

Acting FIFA president Isa Hayatou has undergone a successful kidney transplant, according to a statement on the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s website.

However, Hayatou who has suffered with kidney problems for some time, plans to take some days off work before he continues leading soccer’s world governing body temporarily.
This was disclosed in a statement by CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani.

El Amrani said: “I am pleased with the positive news given by the medical personnel. On behalf of CAF and on my own behalf, I wish our President a speedy recovery. In the coming days, I will be in regular contact with him and I am glad to know that in future, he will be back on our side.
“Following recommendations by medical personnel, Hayatou will observe some days of rest.”

The 69-year-old, who has been a member of FIFA’s executive for the last 25 years, is the organisation’s most senior vice-president. His seventh term as CAF president will expire in 2017.
