Arsenal goalie says his heroics in
the first half against Bayern Munich gave his side the confidence to go
ahead to pressure their opponents to concede.
The former Chelsea made two crucial saves from Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski just after the break to keep Arsenal in the match which was slipping through their fingers.
Arsenal however scored through Olivier Giroud and Theo
Walcott to earn Arsenal their first three points in the
Champions League this season.
Cech told Arsenal official website after the match: “I think there were two key moments. Obviously if Thiago had scored early in the game then they would have had control of the game so it was a very important save at the start.
“And then I’m obviously glad I made the save against Lewandowski as in that moment we could have been 1-0 down, but instead in a few minutes we were 1-0 up and [that] basically decided the game.
“As much as it went up and down and there were chances and shots and it was very entertaining, it looked like one goal might decide it.”
Meanwhile Thomas Muller says the Bayern Munich squad does not blame Manuel Neuer for misjudging Carzola’s freekick which allowed Giroud to score.
Neuer who up to that point had been great in goal was at fault as he miscalculated the flight of Carzolas freekick, punching thin air to allow Giroud score into an empty net.
