Chelsea can win the Premier League... the 10-point gap at this stage of the season is not impossible, insists Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas is adamant that Chelsea can retain the Premier League despite their poor start to the season.

The Blues sit 16th in the table after eight games - 10 points adrift of league leaders and title rivals Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho's side have lost four of their opening eight matches - with City, Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton all claiming the scalp of the west London outfit.

THE DAMNING STATS ABOUT CHELSEA'S START TO THE SEASON

Chelsea have conceded as many goals in their last four Premier League home games (seven) as they had in the previous 17 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have eight points from eight games. No team has ever finished higher than fifth in the Premier League after starting like this. The average finishing position from this start is 14th.
This is Chelsea’s lowest points total after eight games in a top-flight season since 1978-79 (four points), when the two-points-for-a win rule was operating. Chelsea were relegated in this season.
Jose Mourinho has lost five of his last 10 Premier League games. Before that he'd lost only five of the previous 59.
Chelsea have picked up six bookings for simulation since the start of last season, twice as many as any other Premier League side.

No team has ever finished higher than fifth in the Premier League after starting like this. But despite history telling him otherwise, 28-year-old Fabregas insists that closing the gap to those at the top is attainable.
'I still believe we can win the league. It's not going to be easy but a 10-point gap at this stage of the season is not impossible,' the midfielder told The Sun.
'Last season, we took 22 points from our first eight games but this time every team has lost at least one.
'Manchester City lost to West Ham and Tottenham when no one expected it, Manchester United and Arsenal have also dropped points. No one at Chelsea is happy with our current position but I would prefer to be here now than at the end of the season.
'It's not how we start the campaign, it's where we finish it.'
Fabregas will be hoping that starts on Saturday afternoon when they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
