Super Eagles’ first choice
goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has lost his place first place at Wolverhampton
Wanderers to Arsenal loanee Emiliano Martinez.
Ikeme who was used as a replacement for the now retired
goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has not found a consistent run of good form
this season and Wolves coach Kenny Jackett dropped him.
Coach Jackett has however assured Ikeme that he would regain his place in the team if he can impress in training and in any match he could be called upon.
He said: “Carl is a very good goalkeeper but at the moment we are looking to build and add if we can. We are not looking to decrease the club,” Jackett told the Express & Star.
“From us it is a case of head down, work for the club, work for Wolves and do our best to make sure the club is successful. Does he have to wait for his opportunity? “Yes – and do well enough in training to keep the pressure on the other player, that is what football is all about.”
Ikeme, 29, has been capped four times for the Nigerian national team and has been impressive so far. He is Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper following the retirement of Vincent Enyeama.
