Protesters Storm APC Secretariat Over Audu's Emergence

There is an on-going protest at the National Secreteriat of the All Progressives Congress following the emergence of Abubakar Audu as the party’s governorship candidate in Kogi state, The Punch reports.
According to the report, scores of protesters carrying placard stormed the gate of the secretariat while the candidate was waiting to collect his certificate of return.
It was gathered that the protesters urged the party to get a credible candidate to fly its flag.

Some of the placards had such inscriptions like ‎’Kogi state say No to Audu’,We need a credible leader’, ‘APC, do the right thing’.
According to Sulaiman Mohammed, the leader of the protesters, the people of the state deserved a better candidate.

Audu who is standing trial for corruption, emerge as its candidate for the upcoming elections.
He defeated 27 other contestants to emerge to be the APC flag bearer in the forthcoming Kogi state governorship election, polling 1,109 in the primaries ahead of his closest rival Yahaya Bello who received 703 votes.
Audu who has contested the governorship position of the state since the inception of the state, 1991, 1999 (which he won), 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015, had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission shortly after his governorship tenure expiration in 2003. His trial is reportedly still on-going.
The Kogi state governorship election is scheduled to hold November 21 2015.
