There are indications that the Liverpool
management have contacted former Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG manager
Carlo Ancelotti in a bid to convince him to quit his sabbatical and sign
for the club.
According to the Daily Mail UK, the decision makers at Liverpool are
still standing behind Rodgers but have contacted Ancelotti as the red’s
poor start to the season makes them re-think their stance.
Rodgers is popular among fans and players and even club legend Steven Gerrard has hailed the Irishman’s man management skills.
It is understood Rodgers retains the support of some decision-makers at Liverpool, but his job is now hanging by a thread after Ancelotti was contacted about his position.
The Fenway Sports Group who own Liverpool are unhappy with Rodger’s selection and tactics in the 3-0 loss to Everton and the subsequnt 3-1 loss at Manchester United.
Ancelotti has a more glamourous CV than Rodgers which includes three champions league titles, three league titles and three domestic cups.
It is however understood that Ancelotti would need to be totally convinced of the potential and quality of the present Liverpool team while the Italian himself has spoken glowingly of the club in the past.
He said of Liverpool last year: “I’ve followed Liverpool since 1984 after facing them with Roma in the European Cup Final, when we lost on penalties.”
“It’s always been a club that excites me. The “You’ll Never Walk
Alone” they sing is incredible. Nobody sings an anthem like Liverpool
fans.”
Ancelotti is presently on a one year sabbatical after left Real Madrid at the end of last season.
Ancelotti’s AC Milan infamously let a first half 3-0 lead slip in the 2005 champions league final against the Reds which they made 3-3 at full time and triumph at full-time.
Meanwhile, respected journalists James Pearce and Tony Barrett of the Liverpool Echo and the Times respectively have said Liverpool have denied making contact with Ancelotti.
