Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has
slammed his defenders for allowing Manchester City score two cheap
second half goals in their second match of the English Premier League.
A first half strike from Sergio Aguero and further strikes from Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho in the second half, ensured that the defending champions of the Premier League have only one point from a possible six in their two opening fixtures this season.
Mourinho, who was in the news last week as he slammed the team’s physio Eva Carneiro, for her role in Chelsea’s draw against Swansea City, also explained why he substituted captain John Terry for the first time since he became the team’s manager.
In an interview with Supersport after the loss, he said: “the best team in the first half won the game, the best team in the second half was Chelsea. We didn’t create a lot and we made a few important saves.
“We had a big chance to equalise, they made a change because they felt the one nil was safe. The midfield was in trouble and the decision to bring Demichelis in was intelligent.
“The midfield was in trouble and full of yellow cards. My players’ mistakes were responsible for the second and third goals. In the end, I have to be happy with our performance in the second half because it is difficult to be one goal down and play the way we played.”
On why he substituted the Chelsea captain in the second half, the former Real Madrid coach said: “Terry was not injured, Zouma is the fastest defender that we have in the squad and I thought he was good for what he was asked to do.
“When you make changes, sometimes you are right, sometimes you are wrong. But I was right because we were in charge after the substitutions.
“One point from six is better than zero point from six. The Championship is more than open and I know that there are many points to fight for.”
The Stamford Bridge outfit’s loss to Manchester City is their first Premier League loss in the month of August, and it is coming at a time when his Etihad counterpart, Manuel Pellegrini, has stated that he has no issues with the Chelsea boss.
