Generator Fire Kills Teenager Sitting For WASSCE

A 16-year-old boy, Mubarak Gidado, who was taking part in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE in Bauchi State has been killed in a generator fire.
According to The Punch, the teenager was burnt while trying to start a generator which went up in flames.
He was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital but he died two days later.
Speaking on the incident, his father, Aliyu Gidado said his son was a senior secondary school III student of FOMWAN model secondary school in the state.
According to him, Mubarak has been putting on the generator for many years.
He explained that his son was to sit for Mathematics the day after the incident but efforts to save him proved futile.

The father said: “On Wednesday, April 22, at about 7pm, my son went to start the generator, but it went up in flames and the fire consumed him. He was burnt from head to toe.
“The doctors gave him a 50-50 chance, but his condition grew worse and he was placed on life support machine but his heart failed and he gave up.”
Mr Gidado, who was still in shock over the incident said he was grateful to God for his son’s life.
As a father, you can’t quantify the grief of losing a child. It is God that gives and takes and we cannot question him.
“I thank God for Mubarak’s life. He was an obedient child. He wanted to study Computer Science, but now he is no more,” he stated.
A number of people have died from generator related accidents. For years, Nigeria has been battling with a poor power supply. Most Nigerians have to depend on generators for power.
In December 2014, a family of seven burnt to death in a mysterious inferno that engulfed their home at Ayankor, Gboko East, Benue state. The cause of death was suspected to be a generator.
In September 2014, a couple and their three children reportedly suffocated to death from inhaling the fumes of a generator which was found in their room in Ipoyewa community, Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
