The singer has broken the hearts of many fans and show promoters after essentially becoming available for the rest of this month and January 2016.
According to the singer, his doctors have advised him against touring and performing dates for this month and the next because his health has been compromised by stress. The singer sent this message in a post on social media.
“I’ve been on the road for 2 years touring and doing what I love without a break and now, it’s all catching up on me,” Wizkid, who just got nominated for a Grammy award, wrote on social media.
“Promise you new music before the end of the year. You all have an amazing Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“I’ll be here recovering and getting my energy up to see you all next year. Love you all and God bless,” the singer added.
Last week, the Nigerian pop star also cancelled his Uganda concert scheduled to take place at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala over unavoidable circumstances. This year, especially for December, the singer already has two homecoming concert dates booked for December. He is in partnership with Flytime Promotions, a company owned by entertainment mogul Cecil Hammond.
But all of that is out of the table. Flytime confirmed this in a press release.
“Flytime celebrates Wizkid for his Nigerian and international achievements in 2016.” The email read. “Though this news will be heartbreaking for his fans, Flytime promises that the rescheduled concert will be bigger and better than what was originally planned.”
Wizkid deserves this rest. The singer has been touring for two years since he dropped his sophomore album “Ayo (Joy)” in 2014 which essentially set him free from the contract at Empire Mates Entertainment.
He has since flown to every corner of the earth, performing to the most diverse of crowds, and also recorded with artistes drawn from different music soundscapes. 2016 has seen him have the most streamed song, worked on the bestselling album of 2016 and also earned himself a Grammy. The first by a Nigerian pop star.
All of these exertions he has done without taking a break. But also, the body needs to recover after the high-octane levels of performance. There’s only as much as you can push your body, recording constantly, performing, and also flying between time zones.
