Chelsea on Thursday, June 30 posted a video on its website to celebrate Mikel Obi's 10th year at the club.
Chelsea football club is celebrating Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel as he clocks 10 years at the club.
Mikel joined Chelsea in the summer of 2006 from Lyn Oslo of Norway after a controversial transfer saga with Manchester United.
He made his Chelsea debut in a Champions League fixture against Levski Sofia in September 2006.
Chelsea on Thursday, June 30 posted a video on its website to celebrate the midfielder.
‘‘Despite the presence in our squad of arguably the greatest holding midfielder of all time, Claude Makelele, Mikel still made over 40 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and he has maintained a high level of consistency throughout his Chelsea career,” the club said in a short statement on the website.
In his ten years at Chelsea, Mikel has won the two Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies, two League Cup honours, a Champions League and one Europa League.
Jose Mourinho was coach of Chelsea when Mikel signed but he also served under, Avram Grant, Luis Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink, Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas Boas, Roberto De Matteo and Rafa Benitez.
Back home, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) also joined in congratulating the 29-year-old.
“We join Chelsea FC to celebrate the 10th year of Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi at the club,” the NFF wrote on Twitter.
