Ojo got a rare start for Liverpool and was hugely involved before he
was substituted in Liverpool's last week win over Watford.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Nigerian forward Sheyi Ojo after his impressive performance in their 2-0 win over Watford on Sunday, May 8.
Ojo got a rare start for Liverpool and was hugely involved before he was substituted.
Klopp hailed the forward calling him a wonderful player. “Ojo, everybody saw already what a wonderful player he is,” the German manager told Liverpool website.
“We had to give them the opportunity and they took it. They took the chance,” he added.
The 18-year-old has three Premier League assists already this season, and in just four starts.
Former Liverpool defender Gary Gillespie also hailed Ojo but warned high expectations on the winger like in the case of Jordan Ibe.
Ibe
was one of the top performers for Liverpool towards the end of last
season and the club were hoping that the winger would be able to take
further strides in his performances this term.
However,
the 20-year-old has struggled to build on last season’s showing and has
found it difficult to cement a regular starting spot in Jurgen Klopp’s
starting eleven at Anfield.
“I think the comparison for everybody to see is with Jordon Ibe,” Gillespie is quoted to say by Inside Futbol.
“At the start of the season there was so much expectation on Ibe and that expectation probably weighed heavy on his shoulders.
“Hopefully
we don’t put the same sort of burden on Sheyi Ojo because I think he
has got talent and ability; he has that uncanny knack of going past
people, so much like Ibe.”
