– ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami warns Eagles ahead of World Cup qualifiers
– Nigeria will face Egypt in 2017 AFCON double-header in March
– Hector Cuper says Egypt are ready for the crucial encounter
The Nigerian ex-international Segun Odegbami has criticised the Super Eagles for their lack-lustre performances lately and also warned that the team may not qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Super Eagles will face a stern test against the Pharaohs of Egypt and also be busy later in the year as the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifying series commences, but the ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami is not sure Nigeria will make it to Russia with the crop of players in the Super Eagles today.
“Nigeria does not have the players,” Daily Post quoted Odegbami as saying: “Just a few are emerging that starts to give us hope. I think we might still qualify for AFCON.
“To qualify for the World Cup is going to be extremely difficult this time. And if we do, we will be very lucky. That is my own view.
“I think within the next three to four years then we might have a proper Super Eagles if we do things right. If we look into our domestic league, develop it properly, arrange for our players or support them so that they can go to the right environment, for training.
“Give them all the motivation they need, take care of them and we pray for luck, then we would have a true national team. But for now, we are still not there.”
Meanwhile, ahead of the double-header against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the head coach of Pharaohs of Egypt, Hector Cuper, has disclosed that he intends to help the team defeat Nigeria, win the 2017 Nations Cup and qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
