Kelvin Oniarah Ezeigbe, one of the four persons charged with the abduction of Mike Ozekhome (SAN) in 2013, has exonerated former Delta governor, James Ibori from the abduction of Mike Ozekhome (SAN) in 2013.
He told the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday, February 11, that the Department of State Services (DSS) forced him to indict the former governor, Daily Trust.
According to him, after he and his gang members were arrested by the DSS on September 25, 2013, he was forced to re-copy a handwritten statement confessing that they were working for the political interest of Ibori.
He accused the security operatives of using different weapons such as cutlasses, cables, and pliers to effect bodily injuries on him.
Ezeigbe was arraigned along with Frank Azuekor, Michael Omonigho and Momoh Haruna.
The presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola adjourned the case to February 25 for hearing.
They were alleged to have on August 23, 2013, kidnapped Ozekhome at Iruekpen on his way to Iviukwe in Agenebode, Edo state. He was in captivity for about three weeks before he was released.
They were arraigned in 2013 on a 13-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping and acts of terrorism.
The suspects had pleaded not guilty to the charges, saying their statements were taken under duress.
Justice Adeniyi had ordered trial-within-trial after the accused persons, through their counsel, Bala Dakum, objected to admissibility of the confessional statements.
