While receiving the trophy and the certificate, the President expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the awards
President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has received his plaque for the GLO CAF Platinum Award for Good Leadership.
The
president was a recipient of the Glo-CAF Platinum Award at a ceremony
which held in Abuja on Thursday, January 7 but was not present to pick
up the award.
Buhari was on Monday,
January 11 handed the plaque for the award at the State House, Abuja
from the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung.
While
receiving the trophy and the certificate, the President expressed
gratitude to the sponsors of the awards and expressed his love for the
game of football.
“I was in office when the National U-17 team won the maiden edition of the FIFA World Cup in 1985 in China," the president said.
"Thirty
years after, I am being presented again with a trophy won by the Golden
Eaglets in Chile and the Africa U-23 Championship won by the Dream Team
VI in Senegal. Surely, football likes me.”
