Neymar suffers groin injury
Barcelona's in-form forward
Neymar has suffered a groin injury ahead of Wednesday's Champions League
game against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Brazil captain
sustained the problem in a training session at the BayArena and was
pictured walking off the pitch clutching the affected area.
A
club statement read: "During training this evening, Neymar suffered a
small injury to the adductor in his left leg. The evolution of the
injury will determine his availability for the upcoming matches."
Should
the injury require Neymar to miss a significant amount of time it could
place his participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in jeopardy.
The
tournament starts on Thursday in Japan, although Barca enter at the
semi-final stage with that game scheduled for December 17. Prior to
flying to the Far East, they meet Leverkusen before hosting Deportivo La
Coruna at Camp Nou on Saturday.
Neymar has been in wonderful form for Luis Enrique's men this season – scoring 16 goals in 18 games in all competitions.
He was particularly impressive in tandem with Luis Suarez when Lionel Messi was absent for almost two months with a knee injury.
