Bournemouth beat Chelsea by a lone goal scored by substitute Glenn Murray on Saturday
From targeting the defence of their Premier League crown to finishing top four, now Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has changed it again after they were beaten at home by newcomers, Bournemouth.
Bournemouth beat Chelsea by a lone goal scored by substitute Glenn Murray.
Glenn
Murray's close range header gave the Cherries a famous victory at
Stamford Bridge as the Blues' 43-game run without defeat against a newly
promoted side at home came to an end.
Now Mourinho has admitted he may now need to target a top six finish in the Premier League this season.
“I don't know how we lost this game. Especially in the second half, the team played more than well enough to win the game,” Chelsea told Sky Sports after the game.
“The
referee made an important mistake but that’s part of the game and when
our opponents were thinking about defending and keeping a clean sheet,
they scored the goal.
“Our objective is to fight for top four, but maybe now we have to think of finishing top six.
“Chelsea obviously won’t be fighting for relegation – that’s not the point. The problem is our objective is to finish top four.
“Before
today it was OK to feel that with our quality we can win games in a row
to push us up to that position before the end of December.”
