Metuh called on President Buhari to investigate the matter, adding
that it was his duty to ensure the safety of Nigerian citizens.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning the assassination of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Metuh said “The
PDP does not mince words in holding the APC responsible for the Tuesday
attempt on the life of the Deputy Senate President."
Referring to the mild
drama that ensued in the Senate on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, when
Senator Oluremi Tiinubu sat on the seat of the Deputy Senate President, Metuh said "Senator
Oluremi Tinubu, in furtherance of their plan to take over the office of
the Deputy Senate President, went ahead at plenary today to occupy his
seat and attempted to assume the duties associated with that office."
“This
killer squad, our intelligence further revealed, has key marksmen
recruited from within and outside the country with directives to trail,
track down and hit strategic opposition elements and instill fear among
PDP members,” he added.
Ekweremadu has not enjoyed the support of his colleagues in the APC since he was elected as the Deputy Senate President.
You
will recall that Senator Tinubu was visibly upset when the Senate
President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, were elected into office.
The former first lady of Lagos, reportedly refused to shake hands with Saraki.
The PDP spokesman called on President Buhari to investigate the matter, adding that it was his duty to ensure the safety of Nigerian citizens.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu reportedly escaped an assassination attempt made on his life, early this week.
