Sir Alex Ferguson says Ryan Giggs would have succeeded him at Manchester United if the Welsh had retired earlier from football
Former manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the very reason why Ryan Giggs did not succeed him at the club.
Giggs is now an assistant coach to United manager Louis van Gaal and Sir Ferguson has revealed that the former winger could have succeeded him if had retried earlier.
“If Ryan Giggs had retired six, seven years ago quite
likely I would have made him my assistant and quite likely he could
have moved straight into the job with the experience of being an
assistant manager to me as he is doing with Louis van Gaal at the moment,” Ferguson said in a new BBC One documentary called Sir Alex Ferguson: Secrets of Success.

“But I would never have asked a player to quit.”
Sir Ferguson was succeeded by David Moyes who was sacked before the end of his first season after a string of poor results.
Giggs is now an assistant to Louis van Gaal at United (BT Sport Europe)
The Scot however insists that Moyes’ appointment was not a mistake.
“I don't think we made a mistake at all,” Ferguson added.
“I think we chose a good football man - [he] did a great job at Everton, had 11 years there.
“We picked the right man. Unfortunately it didn't work for David.”
