One of the most outspoken elder statesman and
the former Governor of the old Kaduna state, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe
Musa, has for the first time gave an insight of incessant attacks on
government’s policies and programs saying that he is not doing it out of
mischief.
He bares his mind in a special interview session with Naij.com correspondent, Abubakar Ado at his residence in Alyu Turaki highbrow GRA, Kaduna state.
Balarabe Musa who governs the old Kaduna state in 1980/81 said that he believes in the dignity of the human person and the peaceful development of the country, adding that these two qualities cannot come from leadership.
Typical of his character, Alhaji Musa took a swipe at political leaders from 1966 with the exception of Murtala Mohammed who according to him sacrificed everything for the sake of the people.
He accused them (politicians) of emerging out of a system based on self-system and depended on self-interest, adding that the only difference between them (politicians) was that some of them depended on self-interest as a system but did not enrich themselves with it.
The former governor further noted that political leaders were committed to self-interest first and public-interest second or incidental, a situation he said gave rise to social problems like massive corruption, criminal waste of resources e.t.c.
Musa who went down the memory lane said since the amalgamation of the country in 1914 to 1966 the country never experience political leaders who looted the nation’s treasury, and questioned if anybody has ever associated Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo or Sardauna with public stealing?
“In fact during that golden period in the history of our country, anybody who stole public funds even one kobo, was prosecuted and if found guilty was punished accordingly. This was the case up to 1966 but from 1966 what happens? The leaders are thieves and you can see all of them because they have records of stealing public funds except one man, Murtala Mohammed,” he said.
Just recently, Balarabe Musa, expressed his deep disappointment with the ministerial list finally handed over for screening by President Muhammadu Buhari. He said: “These are the same old names, ordinary Nigerians who the President knows and he must have even met them several times. So, what is particular about them that he wasted so much time in appointing them ministers.”
