The deputy speaker of the Abia state House of
Assembly, Honourable Cosmos Ndukwe, has denied the certificate scandal
issue after it was alleged that the lawmaker had submitted fake academic
credentials during the last April 11 election.
The allegation was made by the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate, Chijioke Chukwu. He is among the petitioners challenging the outcome of the April 11 state House of Assembly poll which returned Nudkwe as winner, This Day reports.
On the certificate scandal, Chukwu had said in an interview that the results Ndukwe submitted to contest the election were forged from the beginning.
There have been multiple petitions at the Abia state House of Assembly election tribunal challenging Ndukwe’s mandate.
However, on the issues of his certificate forgery, Ndukwe maintained at a press conference in Umuahia that his political foes were raising issues on the authenticity of his certificates and in the process bedeviling his reputation and political integrity.
He said: “Instead of embarking on mischief and blackmail, it is only reasonable one allows the mill of justice to grind to a logical conclusion no matter how slow.
“My academic records are not only comprehensively genuine but a pure expression of my academic excellence. A mere subpoena of the issuing authorities would have exposed the minutest irregularities. It is therefore useless to canvass on pages of newspapers what he could not prove in court.”
The lawmaker said that he had obtained his first and master’s degrees from the Abia state university disclosing that he even intends to embark on a doctorate programme.
He urged his political detractors and integrity defamers to go to the university and obtain his academic records.
Ndukwe said: “Chijioke Chukwu who came a distant third in the poll has been playing politics of lies and blackmail in his desperation to achieve through sentiments and outlandish allegations on the pages of newspaper what he could not achieve in the ballot box.”
He also lambasted Chukwu for swearing to a false affidavit where he had claimed that he (Chukwu) had served him (Ndukwe) his petition notice and that the “invisible bailiff” was beaten up when he had come to serve the notice.
Ndukwe who is a former chief of staff in the government of the erstwhile governor Theodore Orji had in September accused a former governor of the state of sponsoring the character assassination war against him.
According to Vanguard report, the lawmaker had alleged that the aim of the media attack was to castigate him before his supporters and the people he represents.
He rather expressed joy that his people and supporters know the machinations of his political enemies.
Meanwhile, for the Lagos state House of Assembly, there is going to be very strict screening of nominees submitted by the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for the positions of commissioners and special advisers.
