Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers has launched a
thinly veiled attack at the players at his disposal by claiming he does
not have the right tools to work with.
Rodgers said after his saw his side defeat Aston Villa 3-2 at Anfield on Sunday, September 27: “If you give me the tools, I’ll do the work.”
Rodgers also expressed confidence in his abilities by highlighting his team’s performance during the 2013-2014 season when they came close to winning the English League Title
He said: “I am the same guy who nearly won us the league, but better.
“I think I have shown in the early stages of my management — without being arrogant — that with a talented group of players I can compete at the top end of the league. I know how to manage top players. If you give me the tools, I’ll do the work.”
The former Swansea manager also expressed his disappointment at how people quickly forgot his team’s achievements two seasons ago.
He continued: “The team was eighth when I got here. We built a team to excite people throughout European football, that should have won the league.
“All the good work gets forgotten. That’s how it works. It seems the focus has not been on what’s gone on and what we’ve been missing, but more about getting me out of the club. That’s sad.”
Meanwhile, there are indications that the Liverpool management have contacted former Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti in a bid to convince him to quit his sabbatical and sign for the club.
the decision makers at Liverpool are still standing behind Rodgers but have contacted Ancelotti as the red’s poor start to the season makes them re-think their stance.
