Ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2017 qualifier
game against Tanzania, the Taifa Stars coach Boniface Charles Mkwasa has
said his team will thrive under the pressure of being underdogs.
Mkwasa who played against the Green Eagles in the 80s as a player is counting his luck as he hopes his charges defeat the Super Eagles at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday September 9.
Mkwasa who spoke exclusively to Supersport.com said: “Nigeria have always been a strong team with highly talented players and I remember the last time I faced then I was still a player but on Saturday it will be different as every eye will be on me and the players.
“A lot of pundits have already written us off, which takes off the pressure from our players a bit but I want to warn the Nigerians that it will not be business as usual in Dar es Salaam as we want nothing short of a win.
“We respect Nigeria immensely but we will be playing at home in front of our fans who will need to be gifted nothing else short of a win.”
According to Super Sport, Mkwasa was given a three month contract by the Tanzanian Football Federation will a full given to be considererd if he can qualify for 2017’s championship.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s CSKA Moscow star Ahmed Musa has promised to captain Super Eagles to victory when his team square up against Tanzania in the African Nations Cup qualifier.
Musa has been picked to lead the team on Saturday in the absence of Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.
