A 78-year-old landlord, Chief Wilfred
Ogbodo, has been arrested and charged to court by the Enugu state police
command for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl.
Ogbodo was said to have invited the girl, a daughter of one of his tenants in Enugu to his flat, where he allegedly overpowered and sexually assaulted her, Daily Sun reports.
Narrating what happened to the assault referral center managed by Women Aid Collective (WACOL) and funded by Justice for All (J4A), the little girl said Ogbodo invited her to his flat.
According to her, he threatened her before he stripped her naked and raped her.
She said: “He used his hands first, to rub my vagina and later, his mouth to have oral sex with me before penetrating inside me. He told me that, though his penis is big, he has to use it on me anyway, and he had sex with me in my vagina and my anus.’’
The little girl said the forceful penetration left her bleeding profusely and the landlord tried to stop the bleeding by using his handkerchief and shirt to clean her vagina.
While he was at it, his wife came back and started to knock at the door.
The girl said when he opened the door for his wife, she asked her what Ogbodo did to her and she told her.
The victim’s parents, who are still shocked over the incident, have vowed to seek justice.
They thanked Tamar SARC, an Enugu-based sexual assault referral center for the treatment and counseling of their child, which they noted, was prompt.
Tamar SARC has vowed to ensure that Ogbodo is prosecuted for his crime.
The suspect has been remanded and the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
In a related development, a 29-year-old man, Morufu Sofoluwe, was remanded in prison for sexually assaulting his neighbor’s 9-year-old daughter and infecting her with HIV.
