The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has started a process that will assist it to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election in 2019.
As part of the efforts to reclaim power, the party has charged the post
election probe panel set up to look into the remote causes why the
party lost to the APC in the last election and to make appropriate
recommendations.
The post election committee which is headed by the Deputy Senate
President, Ike Ekweremadu, was given the mandate to correct whatever
anomalies that led to the party’s poor performance during the just
concluded 2015 general election.
Addressing journalists at a meeting with North-central members of the
PDP, the Chairman of the North-central post- election sub-committee,
Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, said the mistakes that led to the party’s poor
performance in the elections were being corrected to reposition the
party for future victory.
“The party cannot afford to lose in some state elections including Kogi State, which is expected to hold next year.”
Former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, is heading post-
election committee for the South-south and South-east zones; Alhaji
Shuaibu Oyedoku will head the North-east and North-west zones, while
Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is leading the committee overseeing the
North-central and South-west zones.
The committee is specifically tasked to collect and collate memoranda from members across the geo-political zones.
While giving reason for the establishment of the committee, Ihedioha said it was set up to address issues of post election’ grievances, why the party lost, amongst other issues.
The former Deputy Speaker said a lot is expected from the party,
especially with some governorship elections now around the corner,
adding that PDP cannot afford another loss after it was defeated both at
the presidency and the National Assembly elections.
He further emphasised that the purpose of the interaction was to reposition the party for the 2019 general election, adding that the PDP cannot afford to lose more states to APC.
“Governorship election will hold in Kogi State this year and we want to
send the message to the APC that Kogi State is a no go area for them.
PDP must retain Kogi State,” Ihedioha said.
