The
All Progressives Congress in Osun State has said that one of the
members of the party allegedly shot during the violence which broke out
in Ilase and Obokun on Friday, Bukola Agunbiade, is on danger list at
the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.
A leader of the APC in Obokun/Oriade
federal constituency, Mrs. DupeAjayi-Gbadebo, who said this in an
interview with journalists, on Sunday, decried the attack.
She accused the candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party in Osun-East senatorial district, Mr. Francis
Fadahunsi, of sponsoring the attack on APC members.
She claimed that Fadahunsi had earlier asked APC member to leave the town or be ready to face his wrath.
The APC leader called on security
agencies in the state to beef up security in the area to prevent
recurrence of violence in the future.
She said, “We had set up our beautifully
decorated podium for the campaign and we moved to the street to welcome
the governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. The PDP thugs stormed the venue,
shot our members and disrupted the event.
“Prince Fadahunsi had earlier issued an
ultimatum to our people that anybody that would not vote for him must
leave this town. We need protection and that is why we are calling on
the police to do their job.”
The counsel of the APC, Mr. Abdulrasaq
Adeoye, asked the police to investigate the alleged attack on some
members of the party in Obokun Local Government Area.
But Fadahunsi, who denied the APC’s
allegation, said that hoodlums sponsored by the APC attacked his driver
and beat him mercilessly.
The spokesperson of Fadahunsi Campaign Organisation, Mr. Sola Olowoye, said this in an interview with our correspondent.
“Fadahunsi’s driver was in company with
someone when he saw some people tearing his boss’ campaign posters. They
stopped and asked why they were tearing the posters and the hoodlums
pounced on them and beat them mercilessly.
“The matter was reported to the police.
When the governor came for his campaign, the APC thugs were emboldened
the more and they further unleashed attack on PDP members in the town.
“Angered by the attack, youths in the town rose up and said no APC member would sleep in that town that night.”
The lawyer said that the ruling party
had written a petition to the police on the incident while urging them
to arrest the perpetrators of the violence to serve as deterrent to
others.
Meanwhile, the APC in the state has said that there will be consequences for the perpetrators of the violence.
The spokesperson of the party in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent.
The statement read, “The PDP in Osun has
acquired notoriety for violence, believing that it enjoys impunity
through the protective shield of federal might. Sooner than later,
perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice legally and
internationally as the example of Gbagbo’s family in Cote d’Ivoire
should teach the PDP leadership a lesson.
“No matter how long it takes, the PDP
leaders and hoodlums who maim, kill and destroy property will pay a high
price for their criminal activities.”
