A new crisis supposedly break out in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as anxiety emerges over the party’s chairman Adamu Mu’azu’s resignation.
It was broadly rumoured that the party’s chief had resigned.
According to the Nation, a source said the situation was uncertain, continuing that PDP chieftains were struggling to stop “a major division” in the party ahead of the March 28 presidential poll.
The source, who spoke of panic at the Presidential Villa, after Mu’azu’s “resignation”, was quoted to have said: “I am no more part of you. Fani-Kayode and Ayo Fayose have destroyed all our campaign strategies. They have turned PDP to an opposition party.”
But Adamu Mu’azu, in respond to the rumours, has blamed the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for spreading lying reports signifying his resignation.
He said the reports were aimed at off-putting the electorate ahead of the coming poll.
“Having seen the sign of victory for the ruling party, they have resorted to creating malicious and baseless stories of the resignation of the national chairman, who remains their major nightmare,” he argued.
“APC is too scared of Muazu the game changer. Having noticed the dramatic change of tides and the eminent sign of victory for the ruling party, the opposition in their usual antics have engaged their propaganda evils to create malicious and baseless stories.”
The party’s presidential campaign organisation’s and First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s attacks on the opposition presidential candidate sparked new crisis in the ruling party.
Precisely, Mu’azu and other Northern leaders in the PDP have kicked against the uncontrolled attacks by the First Lady and Jonathan’s campaign spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, against APC presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs. Jonathan also spoke about Gen. Buhari as he being “brain dead”.
