A 16-year-old child dubbed “Snake Boy” suffers from a rare condition, as a result of which he sheds skin every 2 days.
Ari Wibowo from Indonesia has no other choice by soak in water every hour and use lotion to avoid skin hardening which would make him immovable, Metro reports.
The teenager’s condition giving him “scaly” look of a snake is called Erythroderma, or “red man syndrome”, and local doctors say they do not have resources to treat it.
Speaking with Daily Mail Australia photographer Nurcholis Anhari Lubis who worked on documenting the boy’s state said:
“It’s really sad because he was not born normally and has scaly skin all over his body, similar to being severely burnt, from the sole of his feet up to his head. If the boy doesn’t moisturise or soak his skin in water, his body would shrivel and harden up like a sculpture and he won’t be able to move.”
Ari and his family are trying hard to make their life normal, but the people around won’t accept them.
Lubis said that the boy was an outsider as schools and other children reject him fearing his disease might be contagious.
His mother was accused of torturing lizards during pregnancy. Locals believe that mistreating animals by a pregnant woman causes the child look like an animal.
